Caroline Wozniacki begins her US Open quest tonight against American Chelsey Gullickson.

Wozniacki is the new golden girl of the sport right now. The Dane's star has been on the rise ever since she was a surprise finalist in New York last year and she goes into this year's event as top seed and the player in form.

Wozniacki has won three tournaments this month, beating most of the world's best players. She seems to have added extra potency to her game this summer, getting plenty of cheap points of her serve and the forehand is rapidly improving as a serious weapon.

Tonight she faces childhood opponent Chelsey Gullickson, a player she competed against regularly when both were 13-14 years old. Gullickson opted to go through the college route in the States and gained a main draw wildcard for the US Open after winning the NCAA title in April.

Gullickson played a couple of qualifying matches in New Haven and Cincinnati, losing both but she showed enough to give her confidence she might be able to make tonight's clash competitive.
