Caroline Wozniacki meets Alexandra Dulgheru in round three of the French Open

Caroline Wozniacki breezed into round three of the French Open on Wednesday following a comfortable 6-3, 6-1 victory over Tathiana Garbin. Wozniacki hasn’t been in the best form on red clay this season, but appears to be playing with real panache here in France.
Wozniacki looked equally calm in the first round against Alla Kudryavtseva, where she won 6-0, 6-3. In the run up to Roland Garros, Wozniacki was not playing as well as she could, and is not expected to lift the title this fortnight with the Williams sisters and Justine Henin on the scene. However, her last two performances suggest that she may in fact challenge, though she’s yet to play against one of the big names here.
Her opponent today, Alexandra Dulgheru, has the ability to give her a serious scare. Although Dulgheru needed three sets to get past the first round, she took apart Timea Bacsinszky 6-4, 6-2 in round two, and looked assured throughout. More importantly, Dulgheru won the Polsat Warsaw Open last week for the second time in a row, and is currently a force to be reckoned with.
Wozniacki will need to be sharp today, or Dulgheru will at least get close to eliminating her. Wozniacki is the favourite in this match, and potentially could still be playing here well into next week. Despite this, Dulgheru is a formidable opponent, so she can’t afford any slip-ups here.
