Caroline Wozniacki is excited about her chances at next week's Australian Open.
Wozniacki will once again lead the field as top seed and after her experience of going into the US Open as favourite, the Dane feels better prepared to cope with the pressure. Her run to the semi-finals in New York was her best performance in a slam in 2010 and Wozniacki is keen to try and silence the critics who do not see her as a major winner.
“There’s only one winner and there’s 128 players playing in the main draw, so it’s not easy,” she said. “And every time I’ve just been missing something to just take the last step. I lost in the finals and semi-finals of the grand slams before, but hopefully I will be able to take the next step sooner rather than later. I don’t actually feel pressure. I’m enjoying myself out there. I’m playing good tennis and I’m always going to go out there and fight until the last point and I’m going to try to win every match.”
Wozniacki did not have the most auspicious of starts to 2011, opting to compete in an exhibition in Thailand along with other leading names. However she was humbled in straight sets by both Kim Clijsters and Vera Zvonareva, managing just one game against the Russian.
However Wozniacki was keen to point out it was just an exhibition and she will be looking forward to getting the serious stuff started in Sydney this week.
