The 22-year-old Ward from Middlesex had moments where he put his seventh-seeded opponent under pressure but Australian Open semi-finalist Verdasco used his experience against his British opponent to secure a 6-1 6-3 6-4 victory. Verdasco is now preparing to face fourth seed Novak Djokovic in the next round.
