Home favourite Ricardo Mello ends centre court action on day one when he plays Paolo Lorenzi.

Mello, who has been as high as 50 in the world, had to rely on a wildcard to make the main draw this week after slipping down to 138.

However he has had an excellent start to 2010 and is a good pick to score an upset against the Italian Lorenzi. Mello won the San Paulo challenger last month and upset Pablo Cuevas 7-6, 6-3 in Santiago last week before losing in the second round.

Lorenzi is ranked 86 but has yet to win a main draw match this year after four straight defeats.

Mello is indeed the favourite with the bookies at 8/11 with Boylesports while Lorenzi is 11/10 with bet365.
