Juan Carlos Ferrero earned his first win of 2010 on Tuesday and will be hoping for more of the same against Nicolas Massu.

Ferrero had to work hard for his 7-6, 6-3 win over Argentina’s Eduardo Schwank, staving off 7 break points in the first set before eventually taking it on a tiebreak. In set two he twice went up a break but Schwank clawed it back each time before finally wilting.

Chile’s Nicolas Massu did not have an easy time either, winning a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 battle against a qualifier which went on for nearly three hours.

Ferrero and Massu are both veterans of the tour and know each other’s games well having played eight times during their careers. Both players are shadows of their former selves, Ferrero was world number one for a short while back in 2004 and in the same year Massu reached the top ten and won Olympic gold, making himself a hero in his home country.

Ferrero will be confident having won six of those eight matches and he’s won easily both times they have played on clay.

Ferrero is 4/11 with bet365 while Massu is 12/5 with sporting bet.
