Juan Carlos Ferrero takes on Lukasz Kubot in today’s Brasil Open final.

There is a gulf of clay court experience between the two with Ferrero appearing in his 30th ATP final while for Kubot it is just his second.

Ferrero has twelve ATP titles, nine of which have come on clay so he is heavy favourite. He did not look like adding to that tally at the start of the week with a couple of shaky performances early on. However he has hit form in the last couple of rounds, comfortably beating Brazil’s Ricardo Mello in Saturday’s semi-finals.

The top seed said, “I like the courts and conditions of this tournament. I also have a beach house nearby here, so I am often in the area."    

Kubot has been in excellent form so far in 2010. He reached the fourth round of the Australian Open last month and he has blasted his way through the draw, destroying second seed Albert Montanes 6-2, 6-2 in the second round and then fourth seed Igor Andreev 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 in the semi-finals.

Kubot admits he is surprised by his run here saying, “I didn't expect to reach the final here. I had two choices: play outdoors clay or go to Europe and play indoors hard. I chose to come here. I like to play on clay and outside. The weather is fantastic and I like the atmosphere of the Latin American events."
