Brasil Open – Albert Montanes v Simon Greul

Second seed Albert Montanes gets his campaign underway against Germany’s Simon Greul.

Montanes has had an excellent start to the season down under where he reached the semi-finals in Auckland and then the third round in Melbourne before losing to Federer.

It’s taken him to a career high ranking of 28 and it all bodes well for the Spaniard moving into the South American clay court swing on his favourite surface.

He looks to have a fairly clear path to the semi-finals where he could be tested by either Pablo Cuevas or Igor Andreev.

Greul also likes the dirt but he’s not in the best of form and went out at the opening hurdle in Santiago last week to a qualifier.  

They played last year in Estoril when Montanes completely outplayed the German 6-2, 6-2. Expect a similar result this time round.
