Bernard Tomic will be looking to overcome blisters when he takes on Stanislas Wawrinka in the Davis Cup on Friday morning.
Tomic sent a big scare through the Australia team on Friday when he pulled out of their final practise session with racket hand blisters, hitting only briefly with Lleyton Hewitt before wringing his hand and leaving the court.
However officials are confident he will take to the court for the opening rubber against Wawrinka, a pivotal match and a must-win for the Aussies if they are to have any chance of maintaining their unbeaten Davis Cup record over Switzerland. Tomic did not have the best of times in the States, getting thrashed 6-1, 6-0, 6-2 by Marin Cilic in the second round of the US Open and he'll be happy to return to the grass after making the Wimbledon quarters in the summer.
He will feel he has a chance against Wawrinka who lost in the Wimbledon second round and at the same stage in New York, a five setter against Donald Young.
Despite his typically laid-back demeanour, Tomic is relishing the chance to get out there in front of another big crowd.
"I don't show you guys, but I'm bursting inside, don't worry," he said. "I have good sense of where I am on the court. I don't get that nervous. It's going to be extremely tough, first match. There's a bit of pressure around but once the first few games get underway, I'm sure I'll be good out there and have fun."
