The top seed double faulted four times, but this didn’t hold her back. Her aggressive approach was rewarded, and she managed to break Niculescu’s serve six times.
Azarenka excelled this week, winning the tournament without dropping a single set. Her performances here should stand her in good stead for the upcoming TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships.
Niculescu will have to reflect on what could have been. Whilst she certainly impressed here, she fell just one win short of qualifying for the Tournament of Champions in Bali.
