Victoria Azarenka avenged this year’s defeats at the Australian and French Opens on Thursday, sweeping aside the threat of Na Li in straight sets in the group stage of the WTA Championships. With the victory, Azarenka qualifies for the semi-finals, and is just two wins away from winning the prestigious end of season title.

"Li has such a good return and likes to dominate from the beginning, so I tried to serve well and take that away from her," commented the Belarusian. "The crowd here in Istanbul just makes me want to play well and show them some good tennis. They're a fantastic crowd and make me want to play really well."

Azarenka has now won her last seven matches in straight sets. "There are still a few more matches left,” she added. “I'm excited to be here and hope to keep going the same way."
