Rafael Nadal is to consider adapting his game to prevent the risk of further serious injuries.

Nadal is struggling with persistent, recurring injuries to both his knees which threaten the longevity of his career. With the sheer number of matches Nadal has racked up on all four surfaces across the past few years, his body is finally starting to give way.

The Spaniard has noticeably altered his game in the past few years, adopting a much more aggressive stance to reduce the amount of running he has to do. Nadal emphasized how this was the case in his match with Murray.

"Today I played to have the control of the point, a lot of the time with the forehand and the backhand, returning aggressively. If you see my matches three years ago, this didn't happen," he said.

However Nadal’s game is still very physical and relies a lot on his speed of court coverage.

When the question was posed to Nadal in the press conference after his retirement against Andy Murray, he indicated that his game may undergo further changes but it is a very sensitive subject for the Spaniard.

"I think this is not the right moment to discuss this. I think I have changed the style to play compared to before. If you see my matches in 2005 or 2004, 2006, I run a lot compared to now,” he said.
