Australian Open Odds for Women's Futures

Live Tennis Staff - 24 Jan 2010

12 women are left in the women's draw and S. Williams is still on top of the outright winner's market.

The women's singles draw is half way through the fourth round as only 12 players remain.  Serena Williams still leads the futures market for the event but the value looks like it lies elsewhere as her odds are short.  Here are the updated odds in the futures market and our recommendation.

1.  Serena Williams, +180 (9/5), Boylesports.
2.  Justine Henin, +300 (3/1),
Boylesports.
3.  Venus Williams, +700 (7/1),
Boylesports.
4.  Nadia Petrova, +1000 (10/1),
bet365.
5.  Caroline Wozniacki, +1400 (14/1),
bet365.
6.  Victoria Azarenka, +1600 (16/1),
bet365.

At this point it is time to go out on a limb and to pick Nadia Petrova.  Unlike either of the Williams sisters, Petrova is through to the quarterfinals and her odds are still long at 10 to 1.

While Petrova has a tough match against Henin coming up, keep in mind that Henin struggled with Clijsters recently.  For Petrova in the third round, Clijsters was no match at all.

If Petrova survives Henin, she should be able to beat the winner of the Jie Zheng/Maria Kirilenko match and then it is a tough final, probably against Serena.

At +1000, Petrova is priced to be picked.
