Sharapova and Roddick are two big name casualties at the 2011 Australian Open on Day 4.

Maria Sharapova and Andy Roddick have both been eliminated from the 2011 Australian Open. Sharapova lost her 4th round match to Andrea Petkovic of Germany while Roddick lost his match to Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland.

Sharapova fell 6-2, 6-3 with her German opponent reaching new heights as she has advanced to a Grand Slam quarterfinal for the first time in her career. Wawrinka has been to a Grand Slam quarterfinal before although this was the first time he was able to get through at Melbourne Park specifically.

Both Petkovic and Wawrinka may be nearing the end of the road however as they each draw tough opponents in the quarterfinal round. Petkovic will face Na Li while Wawrinka will face Roger Federer and those are both formidable opponents that are part of Day 9 matches as the 2011 Australian Open moves into the second week.
