Andy Murray wore down the resistance of Marin Cilic to make his second grand slam final.

Cilic was always going to be a tough opponent for Murray after his success over the past fortnight, defeating Juan Martin Del Potro and Andy Roddick. At first it looked like it might be a repeat of their US Open encounter as Cilic made a blistering start, running Murray all over the court with accurate flat hitting.

Cilic was playing close to the baseline and bossing the points and Murray seemed to have no answers. However a moment of brilliance from the Scot to earn a break early in the second set turned the match. Chasing down what looked like a winning lob from Cilic, Murray swivelled and slammed a forehand pass beyond the Croatian and let out a massive roar.

From then onwards, Murray was a different player, playing with aggressive, attacking intent and pulling off the type of shots which can turn matches.

Cilic’s serving, particularly on break points kept him in the match for a while but once Murray broke to go 4-3 up in the third set the match was only going one way.

Into the fourth set, the effects of three five set matches were starting to show on the Croatian and he wilted as Murray wrapped up a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 win.

Murray had much praise for his opponent, saying "Marin showed incredible guts, he had played three five-setters here. He made it so tough for me and he was so clearly tired after his hard week. After losing the first set I just went for my shots."

Murray will play either Roger Federer or Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the final
