While the likes of Federer and Nadal are usually too short to back in their opening round matches, Marc Gicquel's first round match against Simon Bolelli should be a straight-forward contest for the Frenchman who is worth backing at 2/5 with bet365.
Gicquel won three of his first round matches in Grand Slam competitions in 2009 and has spent most of the month in Australia in order to acclimatise to not only the Australian weather, but also the playing surface.
He faces an opponent in Bolelli who has not played in any warm-up games in Australia this month and is in extremely poor form heading to Melbourne. Without a win since last August, the Italian has not progressed past the second round in this competition. Furthermore, he has not progressed past the first round in his last eight tournament, which makes the 7/4 on him beating Gicquel very unappealing.
They last met early in 2009 with Gicquel winning in straight sets. He is 15/8 to win this first round game in the same manner and based on recent form, that is also of interest.
