Andy Roddick is in second round action against Victor Hanescu on Wednesday at Wimbledon.
Roddick sealed a rain-delayed 6-4, 7-6, 6-3 win over German qualifier Andreas Beck on Tuesday. It was a tougher draw than it looked as Beck has been ranked inside the top 35 in the world and has an effective grass-court game.
However Roddick's serve was in full flow. He smashed down 30 aces in total and admitted afterwards he was relieved to get the job done in straight sets.
The second set tie-break was big for me because there's a big difference between two sets up and one-set all," Roddick said. "He had a pretty smart gameplan and was going for his shots a lot, but I felt like I was playing better than him so I didn't want to let him back in. I'm pretty happy with where my game is right now. I feel healthy and I know what it takes to go deep at this tournament."
Today's encounter with Hanescu should be more straightforward. Standing at 6'6 you would expect the Romanian to feel fully at home on grass but after growing up on clay, he's never fully adjusted ti the surface and the third round is as good as it's got for him at Wimbledon.
Roddick has won all three of their previous matches without dropping a set and should book a third round spot with relative ease.
