Andy Roddick takes on Tommy Haas in the opening round of the Swiss Indoors in Basel on Wednesday night.
It's been an up and down season for Roddick who has once again battled patches of injury but things have been on the up for him since the summer. He made the quarters of the US Open against the odds and was not far away from being a serious contender in Shanghai earlier this month, losing in a final set tiebreak to eventual runner-up David Ferrer in the quarters.
Roddick concludes his season over the next fortnight with Basel and the Paris Masters and he'll be hoping to end 2011 on a high. He won't have been particularly amused to have landed in the same quarter as long time nemesis Roger Federer, especially as Federer defeated him comfortably in straight sets at the Swiss Indoors last year. However Federer looked a little rusty in his opening match and on a surface this fast anything can happen.
However first up it's another long time rival for Roddick - Tommy Haas. The pair of them have experienced the highs and lows of the tour and they could swop many tales of injury woe in the locker room.
Haas actually leads 7-5 on the head-to-head having enjoyed a strong edge over Roddick in their younger days but he's currently on yet another comeback and hasn't yet played himself into another form to upset the American.
Prediction: Roddick in two.
