Andy Roddick faces a tough test against John Isner tonight in Indian Wells.
The last time these two met it was a five set thriller in the third round of the 2009 US Open. Isner led by two sets to love but Roddick hit back, saving two match points to level the match before Isner stunned him in a fifth set tiebreak.
Roddick has won their other two matches but that Flushing Meadows defeat hit him hard and he will be gunning for revenge tonight. Indian Wells is the only North American Masters event he's yet to win and he would dearly love to set that right this week.
Roddick looked impressive to see off James Blake in straight sets in the second round and he's certainly the more in-form of the two players. He won the Memphis title last month and then won two crucial singles rubbers to seal Davis Cup victory for the USA in Chile.
Isner had lost his last four matches going into this tournament. The American looked set to threaten the top ten this time last year but he's low on confidence right now. He saw off clay-courter Ricardo Mello in straight sets a couple of days ago but does he have the belief to take down Roddick again.
However if Isner consistently finds a high percentage of first serves tonight then anything is possible and it is likely we will be down to the lottery of tiebreaks.
Prediction: Roddick in two
