Andy Roddick will be looking to step up his game against Grigor Dimitrov in the second round of the Shanghai Masters today.
Roddick avenged his Wimbledon 2010 defeat to Yen-Hsun Lu on Monday, seeing off the man from Chinese Taipei 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. Lu had eased through the qualifying rounds in straight sets and Roddick was quite glad to escape unscathed after going out in the first round of the China Open last week.
"He plays so high risk," Roddick said afterwards. "You know, overall I thought it was pretty good, save four games maybe."
There's been plenty of hype on Dimitrov's shoulders this year and the Bulgarian has done well to reach the stage where he's getting direct entry to these Masters 1000 events. However everyone is expecting him to put together a breakthrough run sooner or later and at every big event, you just wonder whether this is his time.
On the evidence of his round one display, it probably isn't. He recovered from a highly scratchy first set to see off Turkish qualifier Marcel Ilhan 2-6, 6-1, 6-4.
Prediction: Roddick in two.
