Three-time finalist Andy Roddick is in action against Andreas Beck on day one of Wimbledon.

If Roddick does eventually win Wimbledon one day there will not be a more popular champion. The American is one of the finest grass court players of his generation and if he had not had the misfortune of competing in the same era as Roger Federer, Roddick would surely have a hatful of Wimbledon crowns to his name by now.

Roddick admits he is still occasionally haunted by his epic five set defeat to Federer two years ago. With Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray rapidly improving and Rafa Nadal looking to establish his own spell of grass-court dominance, Roddick is well aware he may never have a better chance of winning the title he desires most.

However you cannot fault him for persistence and he's back for another tilt this year. He enjoyed a reasonable preparation at Queens, reaching the semi-finals before getting comprehensively outplayed by Murray.

He should have few problems against German qualifier Beck. The tall left-hander is ranked 155 in the world and is seeking his first ATP win of the season. He came through qualifying with few problems and has a decent grass-court game with a heavy serve and good volleys but Roddick should prove a class apart.
