American looks poised to take down his second Slam.

Andy Roddick is the top ranked American on the men's tour and he has been for quite some time.  That said, he has been a little bit of an after thought for Slams in recent years behind Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.  Still, Roddick made it very clear at Wimbledon 2009 that it is not going to be business as usual for the two favorites anymore.

True, Federer defeated Roddick in the final but where Roddick usually went down with ease to Federer, at this year's Wimbledon he, Roddick, pushed Federer to an epic 5th set that took 30 games to decide.  Besides the loss to Nadal at Wimbledon 2008, Federer has never been so closely contested at Wimbledon, at least not in the past 7 years.

What that really shows is that Roddick has improved his game, possibly due to weight loss, and he is a much tougher opponent now than he was in past years.

The first hint that Roddick was new and improved came at the 2009 Australian Open when Roddick advanced to the semis.

Then at the French Open, Roddick advanced to the fourth round on clay, his worst surface.  Roddick had never made it to the 4th round of the French before since debuting at the tournament in 2001.  In fact, in winning three matches at the French this year, Roddick won more matches at Roland Garros then he had won between 2002 and 2008 combined.
There's something about Andy Roddick right now, his desire, his determination, and his abilities that hint of greatness.  He's not too old to win more Slams and he proved that he belongs on the court with Federer in the Wimbledon final, a point he's rarely made over his career.

Our recommendation is to pick Andy Roddick to win the 2009 US Open and bet365 has him at +900 (9/1) odds.
