The American is now fully recovered and raring to go for this week's Masters 1000 tournament in Cincinnati, an event he has won twice in the past.
Roddick looked very lethargic during a third round defeat in Washington a couple of weeks ago and also looked below par in Atlanta last month. He pulled out of the Rogers Cup last week saying he had a suspected virus.
He had blood tests done in Washington and when he returned home and one test revealed that he has had a mild case of mono.
Roddick first suspected something was wrong during his training sessions in July. “I enjoy training all day and running all day and doing all that stuff,” he said. “I opted out of probably four or five workouts this summer that I've never done that before. So that wasn't fun. It was just me wondering if I was out of shape or what was going on, why there was this lethargic feeling.“
“I'm feeling better. I felt a lot better in Washington than I had in training. So [the doctor said] ‘The good news is you're probably ready to rock. Be a little careful, but you should be fine to go.’ So that was a relief.”
