Andy Roddick was on edge on Wednesday night but reached round two of the SAP Open.

Roddick had a fairly comfortable 6-1, 7-6 win but most of his angst was released against the giant video screen showing the action live in a corner of the stadium, something Roddick found distracting.

"You have to turn that off, it's distracting," Roddick told the chair umpire. "I've been here nine years, and it's never stayed on during a point."

As a three time champion Roddick’s request held some force and the screen was immediately switched off with no replays shown either for the rest of the match.

There was more good news for Roddick when a medical checkup showed that the injury he had been struggling with during the Australian Open, a pinched nerve in his neck causing numbness in his hands had gone away and Roddick unleashed two 146 mph bombs against DeHeart.

"Maybe I'm not all the way back, but I'm better than I thought," he said. "I'm not feeling any numbness at all. The strength's there, it's just a matter of repetition. I just have to work myself back up to it."
