Andy Roddick was a little disgruntled after last night's loss in the Winston-Salem semi-finals to John Isner.
Roddick suffered just his second career defeat to Isner and was understandably a little peeved having beaten his rival in straight sets at Indian Wells earlier in the year.
"Besides the two games he broke me, I don’t know if he won a point against my serve; it’s just a matter of if he gets them in a row," Roddick said. "I’m sad because I feel like I played the better first set, but he definitely played better in the second set. But to get four matches...I haven’t played four matches in a week since February or March. So I think this week served its purpose for me as far as preparation for the US Open."
Roddick will be fancying his chances of making the quarters in New York after receiving a favourable draw. He starts against the veteran Michael Russell and is seeded to face clay-courter Nicolas Almagro in the third round, a match he'll be confident of winning on the cement of Flushing Meadows, probably under the lights.
Then in the fourth round he may collide with fifth seed David Ferrer, normally an extremely tough proposition but Ferrer is heading into the tournament very light on matches after suffering a hairline wrist fracture and Roddick will feel in with a chance.
