Andy Roddick has committed to competing in the Davis Cup for the USA next year.
Roddick spearheaded the US team to Davis Cup glory in 2007 but took a year out from the competition in 2010, mainly as an injury prevention measure.
However with new captain Jim Courier taking the reins for the 2011 season, Roddick has made himself available once again. With Sam Querrey and John Isner both reaching the top twenty in 2010 and the Bryan brothers continuing to lead the way at the top of the doubles rankings, it should be a formidable US squad.
They have a tough first round match in the World Group, travelling to Chile at the beginning of March for a tie sure to be held on red clay in front of partisan home crowds.
However Roddick is relishing the challenge. "Davis Cup is something you should commit to for the entire season and not when it's convenient. Trying to win the Davis Cup again is a top priority for me in 2011," he said.
Courier is delighted to have Roddick on board. "Having Andy commit to the 2011 campaign is huge for our team,” he enthused. "Andy not only brings his outstanding Davis Cup record but also his experience and team leadership, which will be invaluable to our efforts."
