Andy Roddick is hoping to win the only big North American hard court tournament that has eluded him tonight in Indian Wells.

Roddick had never made the final of the BNP Paribas Open before and having now set that record straight, the American is hoping to complete his collection of North American Masters Series titles having won Miami (2004), Toronto/Montreal (2003) and Cincinnati (2003 and 2006).

“This is probably the only real big tournament in North America that I haven't won, so I definitely would love to win it,” said Roddick, now 27.

It has been a long wait for Roddick since he won Cincinnati four years ago. The rise of Rafael Nadal alongside Roger Federer has meant that most of the big titles have passed him by.

It has been an even longer wait for Ivan Ljubicic who is still yet to claim his debut Masters Series crown. The former world number three has made several finals and it would be fitting if he finally did it at the age of 31.

Incidentally, the last American male to win Indian Wells was Roddick’s idol, Andre Agassi who beat Pete Sampras in the 2001 final.
