Value lies with Gael Monfils and Radek Stepanek.

The Brisbane International tournament begins on January 3rd.  While the tournament does not attract all of the big stars on the men's tour, Brisbane will still feature several quality players.

Here are the odds for the top players that will be participating in the Brisbane International tennis event (all odds Stan James):

1.  Andy Roddick, +200 (2/1)
2.  Gael Monfils, +500 (5/1)
3.  Radek Stepanek, +500 (5/1)
4.  Sam Querrey, +800 (8/1)
5.  Tomas Berdych, +800 (8/1)
6.  Richard Gasquet, +1400 (14/1)

Andy Roddick has not displayed on-court strength since Wimbledon and the pre-US Open summer hard court season.  He is not a great pick for Brisbane, firstly because he is coming back from injury.  Secondly, Roddick's odds are the shortest in the field and you don't generally want to pick the favorite at short odds unless they have a clear advantage over the other top players.

Monfils and Stepanek are a couple players with longer odds for the event and they are both perfectly capable of defeating Roddick should a head to head match-up arise.

They both experienced some success in the late parts of the 2009 season especially Monfils who made the final at the Paris Masters.  Monfils is definitely better than Stepanek so putting 60% of your bet on him, Monfils, and 40% of your bet on Stepanek is the smartest play to make.

For serious longshots consider Richard Gasquet at +1400 and Marcos Baghdatis at +1600 as they are tough outs that stand at least a bit of chance of winning.
