Andy Murray has pulled out of next week's Dubai Championships citing a wrist injury.
Murray has been scheduled to compete alongside Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic in the Gulf but he will now not play again until Indian Wells next month.
After losing to Djokovic in the Melbourne final, Murray told the press that he intended to take an extended break but was back in action on the indoor hard courts of Rotterdam just over a week later. The return to action was unsuccessful on the singles front as Murray crashed out to Marcos Baghdatis in straight sets but he reached the semi-finals of the doubles with brother Jamie.
Murray has never had a particularly great record in Dubai. His best showing came back in 2008 when he beat Roger Federer before losing to Nikolay Davydenko in the quarters.
Last year he lost to Janko Tipsarevic in the second round and attracted a barrage of crticism from all quarters after revealing in a press conference that he had been underprepared for the tournament and had used the match to experiment with different tactics. Some felt that in doing so, Murray had shown a lack of respect towards the event.
