Soderling, the world number seven, has been playing brilliantly this week. He is yet to drop a set and has come through several supposedly tough matches with the minimum of fuss. He was too strong when it mattered for Feliciano Lopez in the third round, winning 7-6, 6-4 and the big match up with Jo-Wilfried Tsonga ended up being a bit one-sided, Soderling winning 6-3, 6-4.
It should be quite an interesting clash of styles. Murray has reverted back to counter-puncher mode this week, staying behind the baseline and gradually wearing down opponents. Whether that will prove enough against the big hitting Soderling remains to be seen.
The Swede can blast his way through most defences with his serve and forehand. Murray’s speed and shot-making on the run is among the best in the business but if he lets Soderling have a look at too many mid-court balls on the forehand he is going to pay.
