Andy Murray takes on French wildcard Jeremy Chardy in round two of the Paris Masters on Wednesday.
Murray was scheduled to compete in the Swiss Indoors last week but withdrew at the last minute with an injury to his leg. It sparked concern amongst the Paris Masters organisers that the world number three might be out of the final Masters 1000 event of the year. However after a few days rest, Murray was back practising again and eased any lingering fitness concerns by winning a doubles match on Monday.
“It was just a freak thing last week,” the British player said. “I woke up feeling really sore in the hamstring and glute. I think it was just like a trapped nerve so it just took a few days to get rid of that. But over the last couple of days I’ve got some good practice in and I feel absolutely fine.”
Chardy has taken full advantage of his wildcard but not without a bit of luck. He took the opening set of his first round clash with Valencia champion Marcel Granollers before the Spaniard retired. A talented but inconsistent player, he reached the semis in Moscow a few weeks ago but it's been a while since he reached his career high of 31.
Murray has won all three of their previous matches over the past few years and should progress comfortably to set up a highly anticipated third round clash with Andy Roddick.
