American legend Pete Sampras has said that Andy Murray needs to take matters into his own hands if he is going to end his major title wait.
Murray has reached three Grand Slam finals but has not won a set in any of them, losing to Roger Federer twice and Novak Djokovic at January's Australian Open.
Some have drawn parallels with serial major winners Andre Agassi and Ivan Lendl who both lost in multiple Grand Slam finals before going on to win their first major title. However Sampras fears that Murray's time may never come unless he changes his mentality in the big matches.
"I think Murray can win Wimbledon but I'm not sure he will," Sampras said. "He's really got to get more aggressive in the big matches and actually go for it for a little bit more."
"He cannot just hang back, stay behind the baseline and rally. He's beaten all the other top guys handily so obviously he has the game but I watched the Australian Open final and didn't see him going for it."
Murray has only competed twice since the Australian Open, losing in the first round of Rotterdam and Indian Wells, raising fears that the Scot may suffer a repeat of last year's form slump which saw him suffer a series of early exits between the Australian Open and Wimbledon.
Murray is still in action in the doubles in Indian Wells with brother Jamie. They take on Xavier Malisse and Alexandr Dolgopolov in tonight's quarter-finals.
