Andy Murray may take an extended break as he comes to terms with his third Grand Slam final defeat.
Murray is scheduled to return to the tour in just over a week's time for the ATP 500 event in Rotterdam but his participation there looks fairly unlikely. It took Murray almost six months to rediscover his best form after his Aussie Open final defeat to Roger Federer last year and he will be keen not to return to the circuit too early.
"Right now I feel better than I did last year," Murray said. "I'll see what I do from here. I don't know, I might not play for a few months. I might feel like playing in a week's time. It depends. See how I feel."
Murray had gone into the final on the back of three straight wins over Novak Djokovic but he admitted his opponent was simply too good on the day. Maybe only Rafael Nadal at his very best could live with Djokovic in that vein of form.
"I thought Novak played unbelievably well," said Murray. "And, yeah, it's tough but I've got to deal with it. But he played great. I mean, I would have liked to have played better, but I think he would have beaten every other player on the tour if he played like that tonight."
"He served well. He didn't make many mistakes from the back of the court. He moved really, really well. He hit the ball very clean. That was it."
