Andy Murray is into the third round at Roland Garros and the world number four has to like his draw at this point.
Andy Murray, a finalist from the last Grand Slam event at Melbourne Park, is into the third round of the 2011 French Open as he defeated Simone Bolelli on Thursday in straight sets 7-6, 6-4, 7-5. Murray is the fourth seed at Roland Garros this season and he has to like the look of his upcoming draw.
In the third round, for example, Murray will face either Michael Berrer or Arnaud Clement and neither of those two players look threatening to the UK's top player right now. After advancing through that match Murray would face no one ranked higher than Viktor Troicki, the 15th seed at the French Open, although Alexandr Dolgopolov could move through to the fourth round as well.
Murray's quarter at Roland Garros has been diluted in terms of clay court talent somewhat due the early exit of Spain's Nicolas Almagro in the first round. Almagro has ten career titles on clay and with him suffering an upset early, a significant threat was removed from the Roland Garros draw.
With Jurgen Melzer a prospective quarterfinalist, Murray could make his first showing in a French Open semifinal in 2011 although the Austrian would definitely put up a fight.
Murray is on Nadal's side of the draw and if the world number one is in fact off-form as his first round match suggested, then Murray might be able to push into the championship match where he would likely be an underdog should he face Roger Federer or Novak Djokovic.
