The top ranked British tennis star has come in at really short odds in the outright winner market.
What do we know about Andy Murray and his tennis recently?
He fizzled out pretty early at the US Open and he hasn't played a tournament since.
That being the case Murray is a questionable favorite against a field that includes several top stars.
Here are the odds to win the event outright with various sportsbooks for the top 6 players:
1. Andy Murray, +162 (8/5), bet365
2. Nikolay Davydenko, +350 (7/2), Paddy Power
3. Fernando Verdasco, +1000 (10/1), Paddy Power or Ladbrokes
4. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, +1100 (11/1), Boylesports
5. Gilles Simon, +1600 (16/1), Boylesports
6. Gaels Monfils, +1800 (18/1), Boylesports
From the above list Boylesports appears as if they really want you to put some bets on the peripheral favorites but the best value is with Nikolay Davydenko at Paddy Power.
Davydenko took down the Kuala Lumpur event in September/October (defeated Fernando Verdasco in the final) and he also won the prestigious Shanghai Masters last month (defeated Rafael Nadal in the final). He tossed in a couple weaker showings in Bejiing and Moscow but those early losses in those events were likely fatigue related as he had to play so many matches in such a short time period. With an early exit at the last event he played in Moscow (lost to Marat Safin), Davydenko is well rested and should be at least a finalist.
With Davydenko on top form and with Murray's form a question mark our recommendation is to bet Davydenko to take this tournament down with Paddy Power at +350.
