The German went a set down in just over half an hour, and did well to take control of the match after a fairly lengthy second set.
Next up for Petkovic will be Roberta Vinci of Italy. Vinci has been in terrific form this season, and she cruised into the third round by dismissing Alize Cornet in straight sets (6-2, 6-3). Vinci is the eighteenth seed here, and on current form she should be able to make things difficult for Petkovic.
Petkovic will enter this upcoming matchup as the favourite, but Vinci should have enough about her to make this a fairly even contest at the very least. The winner of this contest will face either Silvia Soler-Espinosa or Carla Suarez Navarro in round four.
