Andrea Petkovic and Agnieszka Radwanska will meet on Saturday for what promises to be a thrilling Mercury Insurance Open semi-final

Andrea Petkovic has excelled this week in Carlsbad, and she’s gotten through to the semi-finals of the Mercury Insurance Open without dropping a set. She faced Sloane Stephens of America in Friday’s quarter-finals, and breezed through to the final four with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over the youngster. From what we’ve seen so far, it looks like the No. 2 seed has a big chance of clinching her second WTA title of the season.

Petkovic’s opponent in the semi-finals will be third seed Agnieszka Radwanska. Radwanska made a disastrous start to her quarter-final clash against Daniela Hantuchova, but managed to turn things around in the second set to leave the court with a 0-6, 6-4, 6-4 win. The 22 year-old is unlikely to make such a slow start in the semi-finals, and she’ll be keen to take the match to Petkovic.

Radwanska has a 2-0 head to head record against Petkovic prior to this contest, following victories in 2009 and 2010. Despite this, Petkovic is enjoying the best season of her career, and she appears to have improved since she last met Radwanska. This could be a very close matchup.
