The All England Club features a match between two Russians on Wednesday - one who appears to have a fantastic future and one who appears to be in her final years on tour.
Nadia Petrova, a player who has risen as high as world number three in the women's rankings, is a talented veteran on the women's tour whose best tennis clearly appears to be behind her.
She has enjoyed her fair share of success at Wimbledon in the past having twice made the quarterfinals at the All England Club however the 29 year old's ranking is starting to slip as she's down to 37th on tour and her results in majors have tapered off so far in 2011 as well.
After making the quarterfinals of both Melbourne Park and Roland Garros in 2010, Petrova has not done so well in 2011 as she fell in the third round of the Aussie and in the very first round at Roland Garros. Her run as a top player appears to be coming to an end, if it's not already over, although Russian tennis looks safe partly because of Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Petrova's second round opponent at Wimbledon 2011.
Pavlyuchenkova and Petrova have met one time before, on the clay court surface, with Petrova winning that match. However it took place in 2010 when Petrova was still playing at a very high level while Pavlyuchenkova was still developing.
The current "Teen Queen" on the women's tour, there are no players ahead of their 20th birthdays ranked higher than Pavlyuchenkova and the young Russian looks strong enough to best Petrova in their second round match on Wednesday as sure as the young talent blazed her way through to the French Open quarters.
Petrova and Pavlyuchenkova are scheduled to meet in a fourth match that is scheduled for Court 14 with a stadium start time of noon from the UK. Look for the Teen Queen to make another third round appearance at the All England Club, still a couple weeks shy of her 20th birthday.
