No. 2 seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova will face WTA Auckland winner Greta Arn in the quarter-finals of the WTA Monterrey Open

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova produced a confident display in round two of the WTA Monterrey Open to defeat Melanie Oudin in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6(6). The Russian entered the match off of the back of a marathon three setter against Eleni Daniilidou, but managed to dismiss any questions of fatigue by clinching the second and final set in a close fought tie-breaker.

Arn has made a good start to 2011, and turned heads once again with a surprise 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 win against No. 6 seed Sara Errani. On current form, Arn looks set to break into the top fifty for the first time in her career. She’s been a surprise success so far this year, reaching a career high ranking of No. 58 at the age of 31.

This will be the first WTA tour meeting between Pavlyuchenkova and Arn. Pavlyuvchenkova will be the favourite here, though it hardly makes sense to write off the underdog given her recent performances.
