No. 2 seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova will open her WTA Monterrey campaign with a first round matchup against Eleni Daniilidou

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova will begin her WTA Monterrey challenge on Tuesday, with a first round clash against Greek qualifier Eleni Daniilidou. Pavlyuchenkova enters this competition as the world No. 19, and has achieved a few decent results this season. She reached the semi-finals in Brisbane in January, but hasn’t made any major impact on another tournaments since then.

Daniilidou is a former world No. 14, but hasn’t finished a season inside the top hundred since 2007. She is currently ranked No. 172, and has only achieved one victory at tour level this season. She isn’t expected to trouble Pavlyuchenkova here, and will have to raise her game significantly to avoid losing this match in straight sets.

This will be the first meeting between the pairing at this level, though this contest seems like a fairly straightforward one to predict. The young Russian is the in-form player, and should be able to find a safe passage through to round two.
