Ivanovic is a former champion here, and she could well be on course for another title.
Her opponent in Saturday’s semi-finals will be Nadia Petrova. Whilst Petrova wasn’t entirely content about her performance against Shuai Peng in the opening round, she managed to pull through with a 6-4, 6-3 win.
Ivanovic has a 6-5 head to head record against Petrova prior to this clash, though two of her wins came by virtue of retirement. The pairing are tied at 1-1 for 2011, and we could be in for an exciting contest here.
"We've played quite a few times against each other. It will be important to start well, because if she gets off to a good start she can play even better," said Ivanovic ahead of the matchup. "I played her in Cincinnati this year. We both had a lot of chances at the beginning of the match, but it didn't turn out very good for me.”
“She played a good match against Peng. I just want to stay in the moment and play each point, and execute the things I've been working on. I look forward to revenge."
