Ivanovic has looked highly impressive so far in Beijing, taking out eleventh seed Marion Bartoli 6-2, 6-3 and then defeated Olga Govortsova in straight sets. Her win over Govortsova was particularly impressive having trailed 4-1 in the second set at one stage.
She faces a tough task though against Dementieva who is in stunning form having made the Tokyo final last week. The Russian has played some of the best tennis of her career in Asia and has fond memories of Beijing, having won Olympic gold in the stadium two years ago.
However Dementieva struggled with her serve in her opening match against Kimiko Date-Krumm, only scraping past the Japanese veteran 6-3, 1-6, 6-3.
Dementieva leads their head-to-head 4-1 though Ivanovic beat her for the first time 6-1, 7-6 on the clay of Rome earlier this year.
