Alla Kudryavtseva and Olga Govortsova will meet in the second round of this week’s WTA Monterrey Open

Alla Kudryavtseva produced the shock result of the tournament on Monday night, with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over No. 3 seed Aravane Rezai. In a blistering performance, the Russian cruised to victory in less than an hour, holding her serve throughout the match. She will now face Olga Govortsova of Belarus in round two.

Govortsova also made light work of her first round match, defeating Renata Voracova 6-3, 6-1. Govortsova hasn’t made any major progress in any of this season’s tournaments, but secured some crucial results for Belarus in the Fed Cup at the beginning of February. She’s not ranked far behind Kudryavtseva, and this is a match that could easily go into three sets.

Govortsova holds a 1-0 head to head lead against Kudryavtseva, having beaten her last year in Stanford. Govortsova won the match in question with little difficulty, wrapping it up in straight sets (6-1, 6-1).
