Alexandr Dolgopolov looks to reach his first quarter-final of the hard court season when he plays Grigor Dimitrov in Winston-Salem.
It’s been a poor US Open Series so far for Alexandr Dolgopolov. The talented Ukrainian lost second round in Montreal and first round in Cincinnati but he made a strong start this week in New Haven, defeating Carlos Berlocq 6-4, 6-4.
Dolgopolov has had a decent record in ATP 250 events this year, winning the Umag title last month. It’s been when he’s had to step up a level that he’s struggled, with the obvious exception of the Australian Open.
He has the opportunity to flourish this week as he’s the highest ranked player left in his half of the draw and he should at least make the semi-finals.
Dimitrov is ranked at a career high of 52 and he slogged for several hours on Tuesday to see off Donald Young 6-4, 2-6, 7-6.
This should be a fun one to watch as both guys have plenty of variety and like to mix it up. Dolgopolov to win in two.
