Fifth seed Albert Montanes will continue his ATP Acapulco Open campaign with a second round matchup against Santiago Giraldo
Albert Montanes added to Daniel Gimeno-Traver’s misery in the first round of the ATP Acapulco Open, denying his fellow countryman his first win of the season in a confident manner. Although Gimeno-Traver was also attempting to win his first set of the season, Montanes didn’t hold back, and stormed to a 6-2, 6-1 victory. He will now face Santiago Giraldo in round two.
Giraldo struggled in the first round, but looks set to be a tougher opponent than Gimeno-Traver was. Giraldo battled back from a set down in his first round clash with Albert Ramos-Vinolas, to snatch a 4-6, 7-5, 7-5 victory. Giraldo, on current form, will be confident of troubling Montanes. The Columbian reached the semi-finals in Auckland in January, and the final in Santiago earlier this month.
Following the meeting between Montanes and Giraldo in Auckland this season, Giraldo has a 1-0 head to head record against the Spaniard. This bodes well for Giraldo, though things could very easily turn out differently on the red clay of Acapulco.
