Albert Montanes will make a return to the ATP Acapulco Open with a first round match against Daniel Gimeno-Traver

Albert Montanes, a finalist here in 2005, will begin his ATP Acapulco Open campaign by facing Daniel Gimeno-Traver in round one. Montanes is currently the world No. 25, and made the quarter-finals of last week’s ATP Buenos Aires Open. His performances so far this season have been decent, though he’ll need to up his game in order to make a serious challenge for this week’s title.

Gimeno-Traver is ranked just outside of the top fifty, but is yet to win a match all season. To make matters worse, he hasn’t even won a set in 2011. This run of poor form is unlikely to continue much longer, though Montanes will surely fancy his chances here.

Montanes has a 2-1 head to head lead over his fellow countryman, though intriguingly the pairing are 1-1 as far as past Acapulco Open matches are concerned. Gimeno-Traver beat Montanes here in 2009, though Montanes avenged the defeat last season. The most recent meeting between the pairing occurred in Estoril last year, where Montanes claimed a comfortable 6-1, 6-2 victory.
