This week has been quite a turnaround for the struggling Kuznetsova. The Russian won the French Open in 2009 and started this season ranked inside the top 3 but has had a very poor year, tumbling right down to outside the top 20 and she was not even seeded this week.

She brushed aside fifth seed Flavia Pennetta 6-4, 6-0 in the semi-finals, overpowering the Italian to make her first final since the China Open last autumn. Kuznetsova is at her best on the American hard courts, she won the US Open in 2004 and made the final again three years later.

Radwanska has looked the class act in the draw all week and has not even dropped a set so far. She had few problems in dispatching Daniela Hantuchova 6-4, 6-2 in the last four. Hantuchova tried her best to mix things up but Radwanska showed she could more than match her for court-craft.

Kuznetsova leads Radwanska 6-3 on head-to-heads and beat her in the China Open final last year. They have played twice before on hard courts in the States and the Russian has won both times, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 in New Haven 2007 and 6-2, 6-4 in Indian Wells 2008.
