2007 champion Ljubicic is top seed this week and will be looking to recapture the form he had on the American hard courts earlier this year. Ljubicic won his first Masters Series shield at Indian Wells at the age of 31 and with his game, he should be a threat on grass.

The Croatian has a tricky quarter with fifth seed Philipp Petzschner and Xavier Malisse lurking. Petzschner’s serve-volley game is perfect for grass and the German made the Halle semi-finals last week while Malisse beat Novak Djokovic at Queens.

Eighth seed Ben Becker is the defending champion. The big serving German won this tournament as a qualifier last year and he’s back and in form having reached the Halle semi-finals last week, losing to eventual winner Lleyton Hewitt.

Becker will fancy his chances of making it through the bottom half. Baghdatis has not shown any signs of his best form recently and Becker’s biggest threat is likely to be Tommy Robredo. The Spanish third seed is not a natural grass-courter but has made the last four three times at this tournament.
