Ljubicic went all the way in this tournament back in 2007 and with a reasonably open field in Holland this week, the Croatian is certainly in with a chance of repeating the feat.

He starts against Columbian journeyman Alejandro Falla who has eventually fought his way out of the challenger circuit and on to the main tour after many years of trying. Falla is now ranked 65 and is a tough competitor on any surface.

Falla competed in Halle last week getting pulverized by Roger Federer in the second round, while it is Ljubicic’s first outing on the grass this year.
