Third seed Jurgen Melzer has looked in good form so far in Zagreb.

It is a contrast in fortunes for Melzer compared to this time last year when he was sent packing at the first hurdle by Evgeny Korolev. Now the Austrian is up to a ranking of 27 and has enjoyed an easy passage to the quarter-finals. He had little trouble in the second round, too much power to Belgium’s Olivier Rochus, Melzer winning 6-2, 6-3.

He plays the tournament surprise package, the little known Ukrainian Illya Marchenko who is ranked down at 102. However Marchenko on the rise, extremely physically strong and solid as a rock from the back of the court. He qualified for the Australian Open and beat Carlos Moya before losing in round two and has had little trouble reaching the quarter-finals here beating decent opponents in Simone Bolelli and wildcard Ivan Dodig.

However Melzer relishes playing indoors and is an excellent volleyer and should come through in straight sets.
